POSITIONSUMMARY

Performs all testscommonly performed in a hospital laboratory.Maintains, operates, and troubleshoots equipment.Performs quality control.

PRINCIPALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Performs a full range of clinical laboratory tests andexaminations in all sections of the laboratory (chemistry, microbiology, hematology,urinalysis, blood bank, specimen dispatch).

2.Follows established laboratory procedures for specimen handling,processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient testresults.

3.Performs scheduled andunscheduled maintenance on all instruments.Implements and monitors daily quality control, and advises on a courseof action when values are out of range.Documents all corrective action. Notifies lead technologist of problemsand actions taken.

4.Performs patient specimen testing. Ensures sample suitability.Evaluates, judges and interprets test results and ensures accuracy.Identifies and resolves inconsistencies inpatient results.

5.Accepts and processes samples for on-site testing or forwards tocontracted reference laboratories.

6.Maintains all record keeping systems in compliance withestablished procedures.Enters andverifies results using the laboratory information system.

7.Assists, as instructed, in orientation of new employees, and othermedical personnel.Participates in qualityimprovement process/projects, both in the lab and around the Health Center.

8.Shares after hours on-call, weekend and holiday coverage on arotational basis.Responds in case of aninternal or external disaster.

9.Assists the Laboratory Manager in administrative duties asassigned.

10.Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the developmentalstages of patients throughout the continuum of life as they relate to thecollection of specimens and the interpretation of results.

11.Is clear and concise, both verbally and in writing whencommunicating with staff and the public.Builds effective, supportive relationships with co-workers andinternal/external customers.Usespositive interpersonal skills to promote success of team members and promotelaboratory and health center goals.

12.Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’sDegree in Medical Technology or related Life Science field from an accreditedinstitution.MT (ASCP) registry, or certificationas Clinical Laboratory Scientist by NCA or MT (AMT); or obtain within 6 monthsof hire.
