Job Description
As a Principal Software Engineer on the Architecture Team at SanDisk, you will be an integral part of a dynamic group dedicated to shaping the architecture and design of our cutting-edge storage solutions. This role requires expertise in code quality, a focus on intuitive interface design, and a passion for building robust software from the ground up.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Code Quality and Standards:
Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and guidelines to ensure the highest levels of code quality. Conduct thorough code reviews, providing constructive feedback to maintain a high standard of excellence. Collaborate with development teams to implement improvements and address code quality challenges.Interface Design:
Lead the design and development of software interfaces, ensuring a user-friendly and seamless experience. Collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate design specifications into functional and aesthetically pleasing interfaces. Advocate for design principles that prioritize user experience and accessibility.Architectural Design and Development:
Work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable software architectures for new and existing products. Lead the development of core components and libraries, establishing a robust foundation for our storage solutions. Drive innovation in architectural patterns, frameworks, and technologies. Adopt cloud technologies for new DTC channelsBuilding from Ground Up:
Take ownership of greenfield projects, guiding the development team through the entire lifecycle from concept to implementation. Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technically sound solutions. Ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of software solutions built from the beginning.Collaboration and Mentorship:
Collaborate with other senior engineers, architects, and team leads to align on architectural decisions and design principles. Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Work closely with product teams to understand business objectives and provide technical expertise.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
Experience Developing Native Applications for Windows Platform Architected underlying layers of application that interact with Windows ecosystem Experience in Windows systems-level programming (Win32 APIs, multi-threading, Interprocess Communication, pipes, COM)PREFERRED:
Expertise or prior experience with C++, C#, or Rust You have experience in developing macOS client applications Comfortable with cross platform tools like Flutter, experience not required

Compensation & Benefits Details
An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs. The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future. You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital’s Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
