Job Description

:This Advanced Practice Provider (APP; physician assistant or nurse practitioner) will join Intermountain's Neurosciences team located at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. We are an established team physicians providing neurology patient care throughout Intermountain Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center.

A typical day on service will include inpatient rounding, stroke education to stroke patients, performing clinical coordinator tasks on all neurology primary patients, assisting during code stroke, and admitting and discharging patients. In addition to hospital responsibilities, the APP will provide follow up care in stroke clinic. While often working independently, each day will begin with discussing patients and their plans of care with the attending physician. Physician collaboration is also available as needed throughout the day.

Full time, and fully benefits-eligible, it is anticipated the APP will typically work 8 10-hour shifts in a 14-day period. This will include some weekends and holidays. There are currently no call or night shift expectations associated with this role.

A successful candidate will have a background in neurology, hospital medicine, or acute care experience, with a significant interest in stroke and stroke prevention.

Job Essentials

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the provision of patient care at the top of licensure, within their scope of practice. Licensed, credentialed and privileged to perform such duties as:

Maintenance and promotion of health and prevention of disease; Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, correction, and consultation; Procedures as outlined by specialty, and referral for health problems; Education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others; Prescription or administration of prescription drugs or devices in accordance with a consultation and referral plan; Consultation with other healthcare providers; Appropriate and timely documentation of clinical care; Continually learning and developing for optimal patient care and outcomes.

Advanced Practice Providers may also participate in research, utilize evidence-based practice to improve quality patient care, protocol development, care process model development, and best practice standards for assigned patient population throughout our organization.

Minimum Qualifications

Current state license as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA).

Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

- and -

Eligible for State Controlled Substance License II through V.

- and -

Eligible for Federal DEA Certificate II through V.

- and -

BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers.

- and -

Other certification as required ( ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP).

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- and -
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- and -
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- and -
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
