Principal Architect - Azure Cloud Foundations

Job Summary

Core BTS is looking for a Principal Architect to join our growing Azure Infrastructure team.Principal Architect is a key leadership role responsible for designing cloud-based solutions that meet the strategic and operational needs of an organization. This role involves engaging with clients to understand business drivers, assess application portfolios, and design reliable and cost-effective cloud native architectures. The Principal Architect will lead technology strategy across a team of cross functional resources, owning the technical aspects.

Essential Duties

• Engage with client executive and technical stakeholders to design and build scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud solutions.

• Provide expert level client-collateral including architectural drawings, design specifications and operational procedures.

• Lead technical teams in the development and deployment of cloud solutions, providing expert guidance and resolving complex technical challenges.

• Ensure cloud solutions meet security and compliance standards, including data protection, encryption, access control, and regulatory requirements.

• Lead efforts to capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the cloud solution architect community.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship for other levels of members on the team.

• Keep current of emerging technologies and industry trends, identify innovative solutions, and recognize opportunities for efficiency.

• Lead engagement teams, delegate responsibilities, and mentor fellow consultants.

• Work within the sales process to lead technical whiteboards, scope projects, create sales collateral, and present to C-Level executives.

• Review technical documentation and sales collateral for punctual and technical correctness.

• Identify new engagement offerings, create client deliverable templates, and revise existing client deliverables as needed.

• Collaborate with internal services to provide guidance for engagement resourcing, consultant skill needs, and engagement scheduling.

• Triage engagement challenges with Director(s) of Consulting Services, Director(s) of Innovations, and engagement consultants.

• Engage with practice leadership for engagement health, engagement oversight, and identified opportunities.

Required Skills

• Deep understanding of Microsoft Azure core services and capabilities, with an emphasis on the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework and Azure Networking.

• Strong architectural and design skills to create scalable, reliable, and high-performance cloud solutions.

• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code principles and be able to harness tools like ARM (Azure Resource Manager), Bicep, Terraform, Pulumi, Azure DevOps, and/or GitHub to manifest architectural visions.

• Proficiency with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes for container management.

• Understanding of DevOps principles and tools for continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), and automation.

• In-depth understanding of cloud security principles, identity and access management, encryption, and compliance.

• Relevant experience surrounding Azure Backups, Azure Site Recovery, and general DR/HA best-practices.

• Knowledge of cloud-based big data and analytics services such as SQL Data Warehouse, Databricks and ETL processes.

• Familiar with the deployment, configuration of Azure and non-Azure network virtual appliances and firewalls such as Azure Firewall, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Fortinet, Cisco, etc.

• Virtualization experience such as Hyper-V or VMware and management of those platforms such as vCenter and System Center Virtual Machine Manager.

• Effective communication skills to interact with clients, understand their requirements, and convey technical information in a clear and concise manner.

• Project management skills to lead and coordinate cloud implementation projects, ensuring they stay on track and within scope.

The base salary for this position is typically $155,000 to $175,000. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for discretionary commission plan based on company and individual performance. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each candidate, including experience and location.
