The Indian Health Service (IHS), an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. Responsibilities

Ensures that medical equipment in the hospital is safe for patients and staff, reliable in its results, and experiences minimal downtime. Manages all medical equipment recalls and hazard alerts, and investigates any involving medical equipment. Ensures that requirements of The Joint Commission and other groups are met for the medical equipment program. Conducting initial inspections, installation acceptance testing, and performance validations. Ongoing performance testing, systems monitoring, maintenance, hardware and software updating, and medical equipment troubleshooting, repair, testing and performance verification/certification. Equipment records management using the approved computerized maintenance management system. Maintaining a parts inventory management program complete with appropriate test equipment.
Qualifications

A two-year Associate degree in biomedical equipment technology, engineering technology or a related field. A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a biomedical technician, exceptional knowledge of the structure and uses of biomedical equipment.
