We are seeking a Senior Staff R&D Engineer who is highly skilled and experienced with Nitinol to join our dynamic team of industry leading experts.

Responsibilities:

Strong understanding of structure-property relationships in metals, and demonstrated knowledge of Nitinol properties, processing and microstructure relationships. In-depth know-how of other implantable metal alloys such as Co-Cr alloys, Stainless Steels, etc is a plus. Be able to perform state-of-the-art ABAQUS finite element analysis for stress/strain evaluation of parts under different loading conditions i.e. static or dynamic loading Ability to work with computer aided design (CAD) software (e.g. SolidWorks) to design test fixtures and tools. Demonstrate high level knowledge in various metallic materials testing and characterization techniques and ability to use knowledge to suggest appropriate processes, methods, equipment, software, and/or tooling for new tests. Suggest novel solutions to complex problems by applying related past experiences and seeking updated techniques when necessary. Identify opportunities for improvement in existing processes, methods, equipment, tooling; propose appropriate improvement actions. Provide technical support to product and process development and quality teams on root cause investigation or failure analysis. Perform various materials characterization and testing including corrosion, tensile, fatigue & other mechanical testing, radial force testing, SEM/EDX analysis, fractography, microstructure analysis, transformation temperature testing (DSC), Hydrogen testing, ICP testing, etc. Generate protocols and reports for testing material/components for internal and external customers. Knowledge of external standards, e.g. ASTM and ISO and their use, limitations, and applications and actively participate in standard committees to represent Confluent. Ability to work well under pressure and to meet multiple and occasionally competing deadlines while maintaining a cooperative working relationship with colleagues. This includes working with senior colleagues and project managers on complex projects by supporting multiple testing/technical tasks.


Qualifications/Requirements:

M.Sc. and/or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Materials Science with a focus in metals and alloys, or related field with minimum of 4-6 years of experience required This is a full time on site position

What else we look for:

Experience in the medical device industry. Strong first principles understanding of structure-property relationships in metals, and demonstrated knowledge of Nitinol properties, processing and microstructure relationships. In-depth knowledge of Nitinol, Stainless Steel, Cobalt Chromium, Titanium and other implantable metal alloys as it relates to materials science, material fatigue, corrosion behavior, materials characterization, stress & failure analysis, etc. Demonstrated ability to apply scientific fundamentals to complex use cases in medical devices. Hands-on experience with SEM, metallography and microstructure analysis, experience working in a laboratory. Working knowledge of material heat treatment, thermomechanical processing, strengthening mechanisms, fatigue, fracture and mechanical testing. Ability to independently develop strategies, plans and execute, and be effective with minimal supervision. Collaborate, build relationships and work effectively with internal and external teams, cross functional partners. Represent organization as key technical contact internally as well as externally.
