Position Overview:


Responsible for maintaining clerical records, answering the telephone, retrieving reports, processing laboratory charges, physician report distribution and calling results. Responsible for packaging, mailing and reporting the results for send-out laboratory tests. This requires extensive medical, legal, and sample-requirements knowledge and experience. Performs sample and order data entry and retrieval. Coordinates and monitors status of timed draws, STAT testing turnaround and callbacks. Coordinates and notifies phlebotomists of incoming calls for patient draws. Has Primary responsibility for coordination and documentation of new employee training, and for the personal training of all staff in the coordinator duties. Has Support-level responsibility to monitor Phlebotomist training completion, as needed per the Phlebotomy Supervisor. Performs phlebotomy as full-function Senior Phlebotomist also, as needed, including all duties contained in that job description. Provides coverage for the Pathology Administrative Assistant during breaks and vacations. Additional clerical and research duties as assigned. Responsible to the Phlebotomy Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, and Laboratory Director.


Essential Functions:


a) Coordinates the incoming and outgoing telephone calls, requests for services, messages, and reports with the phlebotomists, technologists, and pathologists.

b) Handles rejected specimens and recollection requests.

c) Develops strong relationships with outside clinics to foster better communication.

d) Trains all staff in the proper completion of the coordinator desk tasks.

e) Documents and certifies completion of training of new employees prior to their being released for independent duty.

f) Works with Phlebotomy Supervisor to arrange continuous phlebotomy service.

g) Performs all essential functions included in the Senior Phlebotomist description.

h) Performs courier duties as needed.


Physical Demands and Working Conditions:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.


Qualifications & Skills:

a) Education: High school graduate or equivalent.


b) Training & Experience: Computer skills. Two years' experience in PBT required.


c) Job Knowledge: Evidence of aptitude and excellent work ethic. Director and Manager may consider other exceptional qualifications.


d) Excellent people and communication skills.
