Description

Tewksbury Hospital under the Department of Public Health (DPH), a 370 bed Joint Commission accredited hospital, is
 currently hiring for the position of Steam Fireman – CoGen Plant. This is a Maintenance Steam Fireman position. The
 hospital provides comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with medical and/or mental illnesses.

Please Note: This Maintenance Steam Fireman position is 40 hours per week, working first shift 7:00am – 3:30pm. Days
 off are Saturday and Sunday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Operates and maintains boilers and related auxiliary equipment which includes satellite boilers and cogeneration
 unit, associated piping etc., by regulating controls, opening and closing valves etc. in accordance standard operating
 instructions, procedures and safety regulations.
- Reads meters and gauges at specific intervals to ensure proper temperature, pressure, fuel levels, water levels etc.
- Opens and closes valves and adjusts controls to regulate fuel flow, airflow, water level, steam pressure etc., to ensure
 safe and efficient operation of boilers.
- Checks/monitors daily operation of campus-wide low pressure boilers, auxiliaries and controls.
- Checks/monitors daily operation of campus-wide steam heating and distribution systems.
- Responds to calls relating to heating issues.
- Checks/monitors operating systems to detect faulty operating equipment, to determine necessary repairs, to notify
 appropriate personnel and/or to determine when to shut the system down.
- Cleans, maintains and/or lubricates power plant and related auxiliary equipment such as burners, pumps, filters etc., to
 ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Performs maintenance and repairs to boilers, power plant equipment, related auxiliary equipment, satellite boilers,
 cogeneration unit and steam heating and distribution piping systems using hand tools in order to ensure proper and safe
 operation.
- Records data and maintains logs on such matters as temperatures, fuel consumption, meter and gauge readings etc.
- Performs related duties such as maintaining cleanliness of work areas; verifying receipt of fuel; directing fuel deliveries to
 proper storage areas; and attending training programs as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions/directions including specifications, technical manuals, plans
 and drawings.
- Talent for establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships and deal tactfully with others.
- Physical stamina, including the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and lift/carry heavy objects.
- Mechanical aptitude including skilled in pipe threading, fitting and soldering.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a hospital and/or campus setting working with multiple disciplines and vendors.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a current and valid First or Second Class Steam Firemans license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
