Job Objective:
This is a unique position for the North Slope. The Instrument/Turbine tech maintains and provides major overhaul support for the sophisticated controls, instrumentation, and PLC logic of gas turbines and other driven compressor/pump trains. In addition to these duties the successful candidate will assist with the design, building and installation of recontrols for OEM and legacy PLC systems. This person must have a high degree of technical competence and working knowledge of very expensive and complex machines and computer systems. Provide technical expertise to Operations and ’s to ensure a safe and reliable operating environment.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Troubleshoot / repair and perform preventative maintenance on GE Frame 5, Ruston, Sulzer and Rolls Royce gas turbine drivers in, power generation, gas compression, and centrifugal pump service. Understand and tune anti-surge controls and other PID controllers commonly used in gas compression, power generation and pump controls. Troubleshoot, maintain, calibrate and/or replace flow, level, temperature, and pressure transmitters (pneumatic, electronic, smart or analog) instrumentation. Troubleshoot, maintain and repair alarm and shut down systems in hazardous atmospheres (class 1, division 1&2), including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) used for system control. Maintain knowledge of PLC's and HMI’s, including programming and basic troubleshooting. Troubleshoot and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic and electric control valves of all types. Perform work on analytical and environmental monitoring equipment. Perform work on power generation systems, gas compression and pump trains by assisting operations, overhaul mechanics, ’s and other crafts to solve equipment malfunctions and maintenance issues.Complete project work, including control system installation, FCO, drawing as-builts and other documentation.Perform Instrumentation work on other rotating equipment. Identifies current and future Instrumentation/Controls requirements by establishing a working team with management, engineering, production personnel, technicians, and other persons in a position to understand controls requirements.Supports product development and improvement by reviewing new product plans, discussing equipment needs and modifications, coordinating activities with other facility crafts. Provide leadership and safe practices through operations integrity assurance systems and its componentsProvide work coordination with other projects and crafts. Participate in pre-job, safety compliance and tool box safety meetings. Review and authorize any job procedures developed by the team.Manage daily work schedule utilizing computerized maintenance management system, providing technical advice and quality control.A self-starter.Able to work independently and solve problems with the minimum of supervision.Adheres to the company’s values – integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment and innovation.Maintain responsibility for safety and environmental compliance.Supports company vision and mission.Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.

Other Job Responsibilities:

Provide instrumentation support for facility shutdowns and TAR’s.

Qualifications:

Five (5) years minimum experience required in instrumentation maintenance and or electrical maintenance with a strong controls background. Oil and gas field experience preferred.Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.Ability to effectively communicate. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.Ability to accurately solve problems.Ability to be available 24 hours per day (on call for questions, emergencies, etc.).Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, and the public.Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.Working knowledge of DCS/SCADA systems.Extensive knowledge of micro-processor based systems, HMIs, and PLCs including Allen Bradley ControLogix or similar.Experience working with GE, Ruston, Rolls Royce and Sulzer gas fired turbines or similar.Experience working with power generation, pumps and multi-stage centrifugal gas compressors or similar.Experience executing projects with keen eye for detail, cost and delivery.

Education Requirements:

Work requires an educational background normally acquired through a degree in Instrumentation, Process Controls, or an electrical apprenticeship with a strong controls background.Certification/Education may be substituted for a minimum of 5 years of experience.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Alaska Electrical certificate of fitness is preferred.
