Lab Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY: A Lab Coordinator may be assigned to a clinic when there is no Lead MLT or MT present. A Lab Coordinator may also be present to support the Lead MLT or MT. The Lab Coordinator must work closely with the team to control patient flow for the clinic. The Lab Coordinator is required to perform all duties of a Medical Assistant and function as a support to the Lead MLT/MT. When there is not a Lead MLT or Lead MT, the Lab Coordinator acts as a liaison between management and staff, will serve as point of contact for any issue in the daily operations of the clinic, and will assess, resolve, and/or escalate to Director of Laboratory for technical issues and to the AVP of Operations for non-technical issues, as appropriate. The Lab Coordinator will work closely with the Lead MLT/MT to monitor inventory, ensure staffing is accurate, and run the analyzer/perform QC in the absence of the Lead MLT/MT.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Always looks for ways to improve lab work/patient flow and manage appropriately. Problem solve when issues arise. Will involve appropriate staff as needed Communicate closely with Lead MLT/MT for any employee issues that may need to be addressed. Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products. Helps monitor inventory Performs Venipuncture and accesses ports and other vascular access devices. Responsible for training to any medical assistants that may be new to the team in partnership with the Clinical Education Training Program. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: Accompanying patients to exam rooms, assisting physician/nurse with various procedures and relaying instructions to patient/families. Posts outside laboratory results in computer in a timely manner. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include: respecting/promoting patient rights; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly. Will be required to process outside lab specimens as needed. In the absence of an MLT/MT, will be responsible for running and reporting of laboratory testing. This includes performing daily quality control and also daily/monthly maintenance as required. Charts in EMR and looks up lab orders before drawing patient. Will assist the Lead MLT/MT with annual competency assessments of Lab MAsOTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Employee may be required to change work schedule based on the needs of the clinic. Employee must be able to relocate work location as deemed necessary by the AVP of Operations and Lab Director.EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE and REGISTRATION:
High school diploma or equivalent BLS CertificationEXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Strong medical terminology knowledge Efficient and effective blood draw skills Excellent computer and other basic office equipment skills Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type from draft copy and review/edit reports and correspondenceREASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form. Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
