UConn Health is offering an Assistant Professor, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Calhoun Cardiology Center, and the Department of Surgery position. Applicants must be board certified or eligible for certification and be able to obtain a CT medical license. The successful applicant will participate in Cardiovascular Surgery within the Department of Surgery. The University of Connecticut offers ample opportunities for teaching and research. 

Position Requirements

Accountability to the division chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, on academic matters including all aspects of research and educational activities.

Responsible to the UConn Health leadership for growth, quality, safety, operations, and clinical activities

Collaboration with Co-Physicians in Chief at the Heart & Vascular Institute at HHC with respect to program differentiation and coordination of services to be provided at John Dempsey Hospital.

Collaboration includes effort at compliance, quality, safety with an overall goal of alignment to leverage mutual interest and strengths.

Collaborative, joint working relationship with UConn Health leadership and Hartford Healthcare leadership on strategic activities, which will be defined. Examples include research and educational collaboration, which is of interest to Hartford Healthcare, and clinical volume and growth, which is of interest to John Dempsey Hospital.

Clinical Duties

Participate in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative cardiac surgical care at the request of the chief of cardiac surgery in consultation with Calhoun Center and UConn Health clinical leadership.

Initial appointment will be FTE.

Educational

Upon ACGME approval for the Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship, it is expected that a role as core faculty will be defined.

Participate in scholarly activities by teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows at John Dempsey Hospital.

Attend and participate in Tuesday afternoon cardiology I cardiothoracic surgery.

The surgeon is encouraged to participate in scholarly activities, , research, publications, quality, and outcome projects.
