Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a candidate to join our Engineering and Testing team at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. This position supports the Joint Technical Coordinating Group for Munitions Effectiveness (JTCG/ME) and its Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) through data validation and integration into the Joint Munitions Effectiveness Manuals (JMEM) methodologies, software, and knowledge management systems. JTCG/ME products are used to authenticate weapons effectiveness data for use in operations, training, systems acquisitions, combat modeling and simulation, and weapons procurement.  ARA is a 100% employee-owned company that offers an excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement and more.

As a member of our multidisciplinary team, the JMEM Weaponeering System (JWS) Engineer is responsible for data and methodology validation, development, version control, deployment, and maintenance of weapon and target data for current and future JTCG/ME products. Candidates should have experience with data analysis, methodology development, and modeling and simulation.

 JWS Engineer Job Duties Include:

  • Conducting analyses of new and existing data on JTCG/ME products
  • Performing data validation and integration of weapon effectiveness and target vulnerability data
  • Producing and presenting briefings on analyses results and support status
  • Modeling weapons performance and effects related to Weaponeering
  • Responding to data inquires

JWS Engineer Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 2-4 years of related engineering and analysis experience
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance; selected applicant will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment

JWS Engineer Required Skills:

  • An understanding of object-oriented programming and software development practices
  • The ability to navigate, modify, and query databases in programs such as Microsoft Access, SQLite Maestro, and Toad for Oracle
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team
  • Capability to quickly pivot and adapt to change
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Government personnel, JTCG/ME organizational staff, and Operational users

In addition to the skills above, the following experience and aptitude enhances the Staff Engineer’s effectiveness and impact:

  • Expertise with target vulnerability, weapon effectiveness, stochastic modeling, and lethality calculations
  • Expertise in DoD modeling and simulation technology, structural dynamics, blast effects, structural collapse, and probabilistic analysis
