Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care and Support:
    • Assist patients with daily living activities as needed.
    • Monitor patient behavior and emotional well-being, reporting any concerning changes to mental health professionals.
    • Implement individualized treatment plans under the supervision of qualified professionals.
    • Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients, fostering a positive and therapeutic environment.
    • Help patients develop coping mechanisms and life skills for managing their conditions.
  • De-escalation and Crisis Intervention:
    • Utilize de-escalation techniques to calm agitated patients and ensure everyone's safety.
    • Assist in crisis intervention situations as directed by mental health professionals.
    • Promote a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
  • Documentation and Communication:
    • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient interactions and progress in the electronic health record (EHR).
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, mental health professionals, and other healthcare team members.
  • Unit Support:
    • Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment on the unit.
    • May perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Certification in Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) or Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with mental health or behavioral challenges (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of mental health conditions and behavioral interventions.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong de-escalation skills and ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • Physical ability to restrain patients if necessary (must meet hospital requirements).
