Job Overview:

Maverick Drone Systems is seeking a skilled and experienced UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Pilot to join our dynamic team. As a UAS Pilot, you will be responsible for operating drones to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to public safety operations, solar panel inspections, mapping, and other specialized missions. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • UAS Operation: Safely and efficiently operate drones according to Maverick Drone Systems' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and FAA regulations.
  • Mission Planning: Assist in planning and preparing for flights, including conducting pre-flight checks, assessing weather conditions, and ensuring all necessary equipment is ready and functional.
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Capture high-quality aerial data, including images, videos, and other relevant information. Work with the team to analyze and interpret collected data.
  • Public Safety Support: Collaborate with law enforcement, fire departments, and other public safety agencies to provide aerial support for emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Inspections & Surveys: Conduct inspections and surveys for clients, including solar panel inspections, infrastructure assessments, and land mapping.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on UAS equipment, ensuring all systems are in optimal working condition. Report and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Compliance: Ensure all operations are conducted in accordance with FAA regulations and company policies. Maintain accurate records of flight logs and other documentation.
  • Client Interaction: Engage with clients professionally, providing clear communication and ensuring their needs are met during operations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest UAS technology, industry trends, and best practices. Participate in ongoing training and certification programs.
  • Team Contribution: Take ownership of your role, actively contributing to the growth and mission of the team.

Qualifications:

  • FAA Part 107 Certification: Must hold a current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Experience: Proven experience in operating drones for commercial or public safety purposes. Experience with a variety of UAS platforms is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of drone technology, flight dynamics, and data collection methods. Proficiency in UAS software and tools.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and solve problems in real-time during flight operations.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with team members and clients.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of flight operations and data analysis.
  • Safety-Minded: Strong commitment to safety, with the ability to recognize and mitigate risks.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry UAS equipment and work in various environmental conditions.

Required Skills:

  • Equipment Handling: Capable of carrying equipment and supplies, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk long distances.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of UAS technology, including sensors, software, and flight operations.

Required Experience:

  • Commercial Flight Experience: Minimum of 200+ verifiable hours of commercial sUAS flight experience.
  • Professional sUAS Experience: At least 3+ years of experience with professional-level sUAS systems and project support.
  • Remote Sensing: 5-8 years of experience in remote sensing technologies, with a strong background in photogrammetry, LiDAR, or related areas.
  • Photography and Imaging: Advanced knowledge of photography, particularly in relation to sUAS operations.
  • Education: Associate degree in UAS, Aviation, Surveying, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications: ASPRS Certification or other industry-recognized certifications are preferred.
  • Large Airframe Experience: Experience with large airframes, particularly those with hybrid fuel systems, is desirable.
  • Travel and Availability: Willingness to travel up to 50-75% of the time and support flight crews, with the flexibility to be on call as needed.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Thorough understanding of system integration and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Public Safety Experience: Experience working with law enforcement, fire departments, or other public safety agencies.
  • GIS Experience: Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping software.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Experience in drone maintenance and repair.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced UAS Operations: Experience with integration, operation, and ground control of various UAS platforms.
  • Technical Fabrication: Proficiency in composite construction, CAD, solid modeling, and related fabrication techniques.
  • Aeronautics Knowledge: A mechanical or aeronautical engineering degree is a plus.
  • FAA Certification: Holding an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate is required, with a Part 61 certification preferred.
  • Communication and Training: Ability to develop use cases, identify flying techniques, and train pilots to improve mission deliverables.
  • Operational Consistency: Ensure consistent application of UAS operational procedures and policies across all sites.
  • Business Continuity Support: Assist with the development, training, and maintenance of the Business Continuity Plan to minimize disruptions during critical events.
  • Technology Integration: Aid in the integration of new technologies and their implementation within existing functions.

Education & Certifications:

  • Degree: Minimum of a 2-year college degree in a relevant field.
  • FAA Certifications: Part 107 certification is required; Part 61 is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience managing drone operations, with 1+ years in the utility industry or a related field preferred.
