Job Description

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader with a strong financial administration foundation to serve as Vice President, Corporate Finance.

The Vice President, Corporate Finance leads, directs, and plans activities of the Corporate Finance Department to provide meaningful and timely information to Children’s leadership that supports them in decision-making. The Vice President ensures Children’s is compliant with all federal, state, and location regulations. This leader is responsible for ensuring internal financial controls operate as intended to safeguard and protect Children’s assets. 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President, Corporate Finance leads a team of 75 finance professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Ensures timely and accurate recording of financial information and transactions through efficient processes, controls, and reconciliations.

Develops monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports/surveys/returns for internal and external constituents that are accurate, timely and compliant to support informed decision-making.

Interfaces with operating departments and financial operations managers to evaluate budget variances to appropriately report financial performance.

Manages ongoing relationships with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate reports/returns are completed.

Represents the division as a member of the leadership team to develop and monitor the system’s mission and values, strategic/operational plans, budgets, resource allocation, quality improvement and utilization management activities; culture champion/carry culture.

Provides financial and analytical support to system wide strategic initiatives such as joint ventures, planning and construction projects, and acquisitions.

Ensures compliance with internal policies and procedures, and all regulatory agency requirements and standards affecting the operations of the facilities.

Develops, evaluates, and mentors staff.

Participates in educational programs and professional organizations in order to maintain knowledge of national health care trends and to promote leading edge performance.

Manages ongoing compliance and monitoring of tax-exempt variable and fixed rate debt, including debt covenants, interest rate swaps, stand by purchase agreements, and remarketing agreements as well as relationships with credit rating agencies, bond underwriters, bond counsel, and lending institutions.

Manages ongoing relationships with financial institutional partners (commercial banks, trustee banks, and investment banks)

Collaborates with the Investment Office for appropriate transfer of funds, reporting of investment activity, unitized accounting of investment earnings and associated financial reporting.

Supports the trustees of the Children’s Pediatric Research Trust through issuance of awards, review of submitted invoices, preparation of annual income tax returns and quarterly and annual reporting of available funds.

Manages restricted funds (temporarily restricted and permanently restricted) to ensure assets are retained until the condition or time restriction is met and that funds are appropriately reported.

Candidate Requirements

We are seeking a leader with the following experience, knowledge, and abilities.

Experience

At least ten (10) years of experience providing overall financial leadership in a progressive organization is required.

Healthcare provider or tax exempt accounting experience is highly preferred

Experience with the issuance and management of tax exempt bonds is preferred

Academic healthcare experience with significant research and teaching programs is preferred

Experience with an organization involved in significant fundraising activities, donor restricted funds (temporarily restricted, permanently restricted) and quasi-endowments is preferred

Public accounting experience is preferred

Education

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field is required.

A master's degree in business administration is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting and financial management for large, complex organizations including the operational areas of accounting, accounts payable, payroll, cash & treasury, grant accounting, third party reimbursement, audit, taxes, long term debt, foundation support operations, and financial systems support.

Technical competence in generally accepted accounting principles, payroll taxes, income taxes, and third-party reimbursement methodologies.

Knowledge of federal, state and local compliance requirements for tax exempt and healthcare provider organizations.

Experience in tax exempt variable and fixed rate debt, including debt covenants, interest rate swaps, stand by purchase agreements, and remarketing agreements.

Must possess excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills as well as aptitude for conflict resolution, problem-solving, strategic planning and evaluation, financial analysis, and staff development.
