Overview

Training Department – Structural Welding Instructor - 1st Shift

QP Training (D973) is currently looking for an organized, self-motivated Structural Welding Instructor for the Training School. This position will report to the Supervisor of the Weld School and play an integral role in the training and qualification of Welding students.

The Welding Instructor will be part of a team, responsible for the training of students in various courses related to general safety various welding process and wire types, as well as additional welding related requirements. Qualified candidates will have a strong sense of commitment to Safety and Procedure Compliance, be a self-starter and possess strong verbal & written communication skills. Candidates must also possess the ability to multi-task with a friendly, approachable customer service demeanor.

Responsibilities & Duties - The responsibilities & duties include but are not limited to: 

Willing to travel to support offsite training such as Neit. Instructing multiple Welding related classroom courses including Workmanship, Back to Basics and Safety Briefs  Directing and assessing hands on training with practice and tests Enforcing safety rules and regulations in training and during deck plate audits Assessing student performance & identifying nonconformance to policies, procedures and technical documents Supporting various course content reviews and related activities Conducting assessments as scheduled Meeting with HR Business Partners regarding student performance as needed Consistently grade tests and quizzes to ensure knowledge capture and understanding of training topics Communicate with other Training shifts to advance work and communicate issues Supporting special training projects as required Support the Training department goals and objectives with other responsibilities as assigned Support QP’s development and implementation of the Lifting and Handling ALC Active Learning center.

Work Schedule – The selected candidate will be expected to work the following work schedule:

General shift hours Approximately 1st Shift hours (6:00pm – 2:30am with flexibility to adjust hours as necessary to support business need Ability to work additional overtime as directed (including weekends) The individual must be flexible to support short term training assignments on all shifts as needed

Qualifications

Requirements

Have a minimum of 3 years of Welding Trade experience  Have a minimum of 3 years of Electric Boat experience  Internal candidates must work outside of Groton Operations (Casciano)

Preferred

Possess a High school diploma (minimum) - Certificate, Associates or advanced degree Prior experience teaching  Experience with AWPSS  MDD-00948 VT certified  Currently qualified for 3 or more welding processes, including mechanized welding  Be able to qualify for respiratory protection as required
