Job Description

The Chief Operating Officer, Saint Luke’s East Hospital will have overall, day-to-day responsibility for all operations within the hospital. Specifically, the role will ensure facilities, processes, workforce, equipment, technology and other resources are prioritized and aligned to support the delivery of high quality, safe, patient-focused care. The role will oversee the hospital’s service and program portfolio and will guide the evolution of services to best meet the needs of the community and strategic priorities of the hospital and health system. The COO will, in partnership with the CFO and executive team, be responsible for development of operating and capital budgets, as well as managing to budget and constant refinement of the organization’s cost structure. The COO will collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including the medical staff, regional leadership, service line leadership and system leadership and support functions to support and refine hospital operations. The COO, in partnership with Human Resources leadership, will ensure workforce and leadership structures are optimally organized to deliver safe, high quality patient care, efficiently and effectively. The role will also be responsible for ensuring key processes are in place and functioning properly to achieve desired results. The COO will be expected to be proficient in data-driven management, ensuring metrics are in place and appropriate dashboards and indicators exist to identify opportunities for improvement as well as trends in performance and progress to plans. A key member of the Saint Luke’s East Hospital and Saint Luke’s South & East Region executive team, the COO will report directly to the CEO of the South & East Region.

The successful candidate will possess a unique combination of skills, abilities, and experiences, including:
• History of progressive leadership in a highly matrix healthcare organization– He/she will have a track record of leading a team of talent advisors efficiently and effectively to meet system/organizational goals.
• Interpersonal relationship building – The Chief Operating Officer must be a team player and have a history of establishing him or herself as a competent leader with all members of an Executive Leadership Team. We seek an outgoing personality who will enjoy building and growing relationships at all levels of BJC Healthcare and BJC Medical Group and serve as an advocate in the communities it serves and across the system. 
• Professional credibility – The successful candidate will be recognized as an excellent leader with a vast fund of knowledge in the talent acquisition/physician and/or executive recruitment space.
