Summary:

This position is offered through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. As a Community Health AmeriCorps VISTA Leader at CHRISTUS Health, you will join an incredibly talented team dedicated to supporting and growing the capacity of CHRISTUS Health’s Community Health infrastructure resulting in greater alignment to community needs, improvement of community health outcomes, and increased health equity. The Community Health AmeriCorps VISTA Leader will support the recruitment and training of Community Health AmeriCorps VISTA Members; coordinate and monitor the activities of the Community Health AmeriCorps VISTA Members; and develop and coordinate volunteer partnerships with the community.

Designed specifically to fight poverty and founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for 40 years. An AmeriCorps VISTA assignment is a federal volunteer opportunity. Each VISTA Leader makes a year-long, full-time commitment while receiving a living allowance to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency and perform indirect service to support the organizations in delivering valuable services to people living in poverty. Participants must be 18 years of age and have a combination of community service and/or equivalent college experience. VISTA members receive an end-of-service stipend or education award, health coverage, training, a relocation allowance, a living allowance, and childcare assistance if eligible. The work is full-time (30 hours per week), and VISTAs are permitted to do paid part-time work outside of CHRISTUS Health during their assignment to supplement their income.

Support, develop, and conduct the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training of Community Health AmeriCorps VISTA Members in partnership with Site Supervisors. Provide ongoing support in coordinating the Community Health VISTA Members’ projects and activities, along with meeting regularly, providing feedback, and helping resolve any challenges. Coordinate community volunteer opportunities for CHRISTUS Health associates and leaders in partnership with Community Health AmeriCorps VISTA Members and Site Supervisors. Evaluate the effectiveness of CHRISTUS Health’s AmeriCorps VISTA program. This includes collecting data on VISTA members' accomplishments, tracking their progress, assessing the impact of their service, and monitoring monthly reports to improve the program and ensure that it meets the communities' needs.

Requirements:

Must have successfully completed at least one term of full-time AmeriCorps service with VISTA (365 days), NCCC (1,700 hours), or State and National (1,700 hours) or a full term with the Peace Corps. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have reliable transportation. Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States. Must be dedicated to participating in a one-year, full-time national service assignment. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to be socially perceptive in accepting and relaying information, communicating policies and procedures, and interacting effectively with an interdisciplinary team of professionals, organizations, advocates, and community partners. Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and web browsers. Strong problem-solving skills and exceptional organizational skills; must be proactive and a quick learner. Must be a dedicated team player, with a willingness to learn and to share knowledge with the staff.
