Job Description

Under general supervision, the Planning Technician II performs complex sub-professional planning tasks including technical office and field work involving the collection, analysis, preparation, and illustration of data (e.g. land use, housing/economic conditions, population density, public facilities, community services, and related background information needed for zoning, site plan review, conditional use permits, and other planning activities). Prepares legal and general ownership notification, assigns addresses, geo-codes data records, prepares maps, interprets metes & bounds, arranges presentation of graphics for public meetings, and other planning support duties. Daily contact with the public.

Job Responsibilities

1.Reviews cell towers, building permits, sign permits, and other permits for compliance with City codes.
2.Prepares legal notifications maps, mail outs, and signs.
3.Conducts moderately complex reports from department data files.
4.Maintain database for notices (Conditional Use Permits, Rezonings, Variances, Annexations).
5.Updates official City Maps (City Limits, ETJ, Annexation History, Zoning, Future Land Use, Thoroughfare, and subdivision).
6.Prepares map and list of property owners for legal notifications.
7.Prepares subdivision and site plan presentation materials.
8.Prepares reports.
9.Respond to public information requests from City Secretary.
10.Addresses new subdivisions to ensure they follow City addressing scheme.
11.Conducts field surveys as necessary to determine existing conditions.
12.Data entry, verification, and modification of data files.
13.Prepares informational material for meetings and upcoming public hearings.
14.Serves as part of City’s emergency management response team.
15.Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Requirements - 1. Requires an Associate’s degree in drafting or related field from an accredited college or technical institute; or a minimum of two (2) years’ experience/training in related field will be considered in lieu of degree.
2. Job requires one (1) year of related work experience.
3. Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
4. Proficient knowledge of Windows, AutoCAD, MapInfo, ArcView, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other computing software/tools associated with drafting and planning.
5. Must have ability to work accurately with detailed planning data and prepare accurate summary reports.
6. Maintains an effective working relationship with citizens, groups, business, and external agencies.

Physical Requirements

1.Works under satisfactory conditions. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work.
2.Involves sitting and working from place to place, limited to lifting 20-30 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently.

Additional Information

1.This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
2.No supervisory responsibilities.
3.Subject to working emergency management activities of Planning Department.
4.May include working evening and/or weekend hours.
