Job Description

AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a highly motivated and talented Water/Wastewater Treatment Engineer to support our Water practice in our Philadelphia or Atlanta, GA Offices with goal of developing into a subject matter expert in water treatment and membrane processes. Clean water is our most critical resource, and we are expanding our team to address our clients' essential infrastructure needs. This position will apply your unique problem-solving abilities to assist our most important projects, including addressing the needs of changing regulatory requirements such as with PFAS and Potable Reuse, understanding the implications of aging infrastructure, and implementing state-of-the-art treatment technologies, among many other challenges in the industry. We have numerous exciting projects in both drinking and wastewater treatment applications as well as resource recovery of biosolids, purified water and energy along with access to our own water treatability lab in Philadelphia, PA. Come further enhance our collaborative and driven team and work alongside our national practice leads for wastewater innovation, water reuse and PFAS treatment.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand and lead complex water and wastewater utility systems, encompassing hydraulics, treatment unit processes, and solids management, among others.
  • Develop plans and drive designs to align with evolving regulatory requirements, such as those concerning nutrients, potable reuse and PFAS.
  • Formulate capital improvement plans for water and wastewater facilities, covering both short and long-term planning horizons.
  • Evaluate the necessity for Maintenance and Operation (MOPO) and devise strategies for sequencing and staging in complex facilities.
  • Supervise pilot- and bench-scale experiments for novel treatment technologies, including PFAS removal, membrane filtration, industrial wastewater treatment, and potable re-use treatment.
  • Provide engineering oversight during construction, involving the review of shop drawings, responding to requests for interpretation, and acting as the owner's representative at water/wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Analyze system performance by preparing and interpreting mass balances, hydraulic models, and asset management systems.
  • Generate comprehensive reports, spreadsheets, charts, figures, and slides to effectively communicate observations, findings, and conclusions to audiences with varying technical expertise.
  • Develop designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the guidance of a senior engineer.
  • Independently execute tasks contributing to engineering work products.
  • Adhere to established budget and schedule parameters with minimal supervision.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
  • Stay current on industry trends and advancements in design and engineering.
  • Support practice leadership by active engagement and participation in AECOM’s Technical Practice Network for membrane treatment applications including desalination.
  • Present relevant topics at regional and national industry conferences.
