The Light Equipment Operator operates one or several types of power construction equipment (i.e. forklift, bobcat, compressor, riding-compactor, vehicle for running errands, small water truck, small dump truck and utility truck) to excavate, move and/or grade material. In general, light equipment has a G.V.W. less than 26,000 pounds. This position works in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by his/her manager.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:  (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job) Read, understand and apply Operating Manuals, plans and specifications and visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.  Follow established jobsite safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards. Inspect subordinate’s work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain, and take any corrective action needed. Operate gasoline, diesel, pneumatic or electric powered equipment to move objects or material according to project specifications.  Assemble and operate compressors and pumps; operate levers and pedals on assigned equipment to lower bucket or scoop up material and to lift, swing, or dump material; adjust hand wheels and depress foot pedals to drive machines and control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers and swing booms.  Perform light maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines. Document maintenance logs on assigned equipment.

Read, understand and apply Operating Manuals, plans and specifications and visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions. High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)Preferred Minimum 1 year heavy construction experience. Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have a working knowledge of the operating limitations and safe work practices associated with the equipment being operated. Valid driver's license is required when the equipment will be operated on public roads.
