Forensic Fire Protection Engineer

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Investigate residential, commercial and industrial fires that may involve fire protection or life safety systems including water-based fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry and pre-action) commercial kitchen fire protection and exhaust systems, special hazard fire suppression systems (gaseous, chemical and foam systems), fire detection and alarm systems and residential smoke alarms Conduct field investigations and perform forensic engineering & failure/accident analysis on incidents involving various fire protection systems Conduct post-accident evaluations involving fire-spread and means of egress Consult with clients regarding applicable building and life safety codes Conduct unbiased investigations for various clients Responsible for retention and development of client relationships Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in written reports Support conclusions by appropriate testimony in legal proceedings Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societiesPosition Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering required; Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering preferred P. E. registration or ability to obtain IAAI-CFI or CFEI certifications or ability to obtain Fire Investigation experience or desire to learn a must Knowledge of fire protection systems, building construction and relevant codes Experience with fire modeling a plus Minimum of 5 years of fire protection engineering industry experience Forensic experience/exposure a plus Exceptional interpersonal, communication and writing skillsPhysical Requirements
Ability to travel 25% of the time Ability to maneuver in and around an accident site Ability to lift 40 lbs. Ability to drive to site locations Ability to travel by airline Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work siteBenefits:
