Staff Accountant

Purpose of position:

Support Operations and Financial management to achieve their stated objectives by providing analytical reports of performance and maintaining an accurate general ledger close.  The close process includes completing assigned journal entries, researching unusual account balances, completion and distribution of final reports to plant management.  Provide back-up to manager, other staff accountants, and clerical staff.

Essential Functions:

• Preparation of all daily and weekly plant performance reports including meat yields and labor efficiency reports and preparation of weekly P&L’s for management.
• Research questions from management regarding weekly variances.
• Preparation of journal entries for period and year-end close and preparation of Accounts Payable accruals for the Plant.
• Prepare and explain period-end variances and comparative reports and prepare account analysis worksheets and take corrective action to resolve any issues resulting from their preparation.
• Prepare, review and assist plant management with bill of materials and prepare and work with operations on new product cost estimates.
• Assist in preparing annual budgets and assist in taking of physical inventories on product and materials.
• Develop and update detailed desk procedures for all recurring job tasks and train and develop clerk/clerks that work in the department
• Develop, analyze and provide plant management with appropriate analysis which reveals and defines problems that can be acted upon by management to reduce cost, gain efficiencies, and redirect efforts.
• Assist plant management and Senior Accountant in special assignments as needed and back-up clerical staff, other accountants, and controller when necessary.

Additional Functions:

• Special projects as assigned by Accounting Manager.
• Weekly presentation of performance report to operations in absence of manager.
• Ad Hoc reporting upon request by Operations.
• Any other duties deemed necessary by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.S. degree in accounting or related field preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer skills- SAP, Office 2013 (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access, etc.), Kronos, WMS, and BW
• Be a self-starter, detail-oriented and well organized.
• Have the ability to work within strict timeframes in order to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two-four years plant accounting experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Must have reliable transportation
• Must be able to have consistent attendance in the Farmerville, or other assigned Foster Farms’ office.
• Must be able to sit for long periods.
• Must be able to work on the computer for long periods of time
