WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Tucson, AZ office. The following locations will also be considered: Reno, NV. Be involved in projects with our Mine Engineering and Stability, Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

Provide consultation on open pit and underground mining projects for domestic and international clientsDirect a wide variety of mining rock mechanics management projects, including field investigation, laboratory testing and interpretation; design and construction; geotechnical analysis; and dam safety inspections and reviewsDirect and review geotechnical analyses with a focus on rock mechanics; provide technical expertise in your specializationManage quality control and risks during geotechnical and design work, including critical review of results in coordination with PrincipalsDirect or manage large, complex, and/or multidisciplinary projects according to client-approved scopes of work, and deliver high quality reports and drawings on time and within budget in coordination with PrincipalsProvide advice to mining operationsMaintain existing client relationships and develop new business opportunitiesComplete or review technical proposals and design work packages in response to client needs in coordination with PrincipalsCoach and mentor junior and intermediate staff with respect to their career growth and professional developmentParticipate in hiring, performance reviews, and training decisionsParticipate in development and implementation of WSP’s mining business planWork collaboratively with other senior members of the Global Mining team to implement the business growth strategy, develop, and maintain relationships with a broad client baseParticipate in and promote a safety-first culture Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

An undergraduate or post-graduate degree in geotechnical, mining or geological engineering.5 to 7 years of relevant, post-degree) experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment Engineer in Training Certification.Expertise in rock mechanics and geological engineering, with a technical specializationExcellent technical writing, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligence; ability to establish good relationships with clients and colleaguesExperience as a consulting engineer or technical services roleProven ability to establish and maintain solid client relationshipsKnowledge of and ability to use numerical modeling software including Rocscience (Dips, SLIDE, RS2, Examine 3D), Map3D, and Itasca (FLAC2D/3D, UDEC) an assetStrong, client-focused project direction and business development skillsAbility to manage risk and have excellent engineering judgementAbility to effectively delegate work and lead diverse, interdisciplinary project teamsBusiness acumen and leadershipMultilingual (verbal and written) candidate would be an asset Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

Master’s Degree in geotechnical, mining or geological engineering.Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
