Overview

The Emergency Care Technician must have the skill and knowledge to provide population specific care. He/She must have the ability to identify the needs and requirements of the patient and report findings appropriately to the nurse.

The Emergency Care Technician role is guided by the tasks described on the Competency Checklist and does not include the primary nursing functions of assessment, evaluation, judgment, and delegation.

The Emergency Care Technician reports directly to the Charge Nurse.

Responsibilities

1. Ensure self-compliance with regulatory and government standards of care.

2. Demonstrate the knowledge and skill to perform clerical duties and personal care in regards to the patient.

3. Hold self-accountable and responsible for work performance and continuous improvement of patient care in his/her work area and throughout the hospital.

4. Organize care and prioritize it by communicating and collaborating with others for a multidisciplinary approach to provide a continuity of care.

5. Ensure the satisfactory completion of personal care for patient and family.

6. Accurately transcribe orders and other clinical data.

7. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Education
High school graduate or equivalent required.

2. Licensure/Certification
CNA, EMT or have completed Fundamentals Class in Nursing school

3. Work Experience
One-year experience in an acute care or pre-hospital setting preferred
Basic Life Support certification preferred
