The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year.

The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of its citizens.

Job Summary

This position will provide outstanding customer service by creating a positive first impression on guests upon arrival, answering the phone, taking reservations, managing the efficient and timely seating of guests to a table, and ensuring a seamless dining experience to all.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests in a positive and friendly manner, ensuring they feel appreciated and welcome throughout their visit.
  • Seat guests and update the seating chart and point of sales system to maintain an efficient speed of service.
  • Maintain open communication with supervisors, management, and fellow service staff, sharing information about customer needs, comments, or incidents.
  • Manage the restaurant's reservation system, handle all requests to create new reservations, and effectively communicate wait times.
  • Handle guest inquiries, special requests, and concerns with care and professionalism.
  • Provide information about the restaurant, menu, and promotions.
  • Operate with a sense of urgency at all times, proactively anticipating guests' needs and addressing them promptly.
  • Assist with training of new staff.
  • Adhere to all procedures and policies established by the District, DuPage Golf, and the Health Department to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Perform all required opening and closing tasks to prepare and maintain the restaurant for service.
  • Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits; Become familiar with and observe all applicable safety rules, policies, and work procedures; Follow all safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the District's safety and risk management program; Keep work area clean, orderly, and free of hazards; Immediately report all unsafe conditions and incidents.
  • Maintain a supportive working environment and demonstrate a desire to exceed the expectations of internal and external customers.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older at the time of hire.
  • Food Handler Training and certification within 30 days of employment.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Previous experience in a casual/upscale casual restaurant setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety and service procedures and sanitation guidelines.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution to address customer concerns effectively.
  • Must possess a customer service-oriented attitude, dedicated to ensuring a positive dining experience for all guests.
  • Preferred experience in high-volume hosting.
  • Strong troubleshooting and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work quickly and with great accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Collaboration and dedication to team goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.

Schedule: Training begins March 13. Variable schedule during the golf season based on business needs, may include weekdays and/or weekends. Shifts of 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 3:45 PM - 9:00 PM.

Pay: $14 - 17 per hour.

Work Environment: Fast-paced restaurant setting with frequent tasks and interruptions. This position requires working primarily indoors and outdoors during appropriate seasons and weather conditions. In this position, there is exposure to slippery floors, kitchenware, cutlery, carrying hot items, and cleaning chemicals.

Location: The Greenway Tap Restaurant at the Preserve at Oak Meadows Golf Course in Addison, IL.
