Job Description


The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a motivated detail-oriented person for the Precast Concrete Inspector (Engineering Technician III) position to perform inspections of precast concrete products, and ready-mix concrete plants for UDOT. As needed, you will certify and provide documentation for all precast products inspected by the UDOT Central Materials Section. You may also need to perform aggregate, and other miscellaneous materials inspection, sampling and testing; perform specialized testing of materials and analyze their physical and chemical properties to verify compliance with standards and to ensure that quality products and materials are used in building and maintaining state roadways; perform calculations required in order to verify material quantities; perform quality assurance testing and independent assurance testing; interpret plans and specifications to assure compliance with standards and contract specific requirements; advise engineers of technical problems with suggested solutions; and perform other duties as assigned. 

Principle Duties
As the Precast Concrete Inspector, you will:

Analyze, summarize and/or review data; report findings, interpret results and/or make recommendations. Write or draft correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials. Examine documents to verify applicability, legibility, completeness, accuracy, and/or consistency of information from one document to another, etc. Document testing and inspections in a professional manner. Analyze and test items. Interpret results and/or implement changes. Be able to read and follow AASHTO or ASTM test procedures. Act as a resource for management and staff; provide technical support within the area of responsibility. Minimum Qualifications
The qualified candidate for this position: Will have at least one of the following:Successfully completed TEP (Transportation Technician III qualified) or T3 yr 3 or NICET Level III Materials or Construction and 2 years of experience in the construction or materials testing fields.A combination of directly related education and/or experience. Must have ACI Concrete Field Testing, ACI Self Consolidated Concrete Testing, and PCI Level II Quality Control Technician/Inspector Certification within 6 months. Must have a valid driver's license. Preference
Preference may be given to those who currently hold the following certifications: TTQP Aggregate, TTQP Laboratory ACI/TTQP Concrete  PCI level I, II, or III ACI/TTQP Concrete Strength ACI Self Consolidating Concrete Technician Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
