What Success Looks Like In This Job

To work under the direction of the Administrative Services Division and reports directly to the Administrative Manager. The Appeal Coordinator develops, coordinates, and/or administers complex programs or services with limited supervision. The Appeals Coordinator may administer programs, coordinate or provide services, provide specialized or technical information, provide customer service requiring confidentiality, and/or perform diverse and complex data management processes requiring proficiency and an understanding of the structure of databases and the information contained in the databases. The Appeals Coordinator position performs complex and specialized tasks unique to the County. Technical support work for this position requires a thorough knowledge of Board of Equalization, Board of County Commissioners, Board of Assessment Appeals, Arbitration, and Abatement administrative rules and procedures. The Appeals Coordinator performs work that differs from the works of other employees within the same office/department and handles responsibilities independently. This position will exercise a considerable degree of independent judgment.

Examples of Duties for Success

Managing comprehensive and confidential administrative support, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality on all matters. Collects prepares and coordinate all property Abatements and Appeals submitted to the Assessor’s Office, Board of Equalization (BOE), Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), Board of Assessment Appeals (BAA), Arbitration and District Court.  Facilitating the flow of communication and information between Appraisal, Board of Equalization (BOE), Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), Board of Assessment Appeals (BAA), County Attorney and County Treasurer.  Produce and edit correspondence, reports and other documentation often synthesizing complex information Processes Tax Roll Corrections. Responding to general inquiries on behalf of the office. Create and maintain spreadsheet for tracking and monitoring system and conducts follow up to ensure the effective resolution on all matters. Collect and Compiles data and/or filing system to ensure effective, accurate and easily retrievable documents of operation. Analyzes routine operating practices and procedures makes recommendation to ensure smooth and efficient office operation. Serve as liaison with the County Attorneys, County Treasurer, Public, Agencies and others to exchange information and explain laws, rule, regulation, policies and procedures. Coordinate and prioritize work to support the needs of multiple teams. Assist in completing unexpected and urgent projects as requested. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required. 

Qualifications for Success

To be successful, our ideal candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Statutes and regulations relating appeals of all levels.  Basic understanding of tax codes and guidelines. Interpersonal communication skills. Apply logical or scientific principles to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions. Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Operate standard office equipment such as computers, copy and fax machines, and telephone system. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Computer Skills: Microsoft Office software. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

More Qualifications for Success

Experience : Five (5) years of experience in Public Administration preferred.

Education and Training

High School Diploma / GED equivalent and 5 years of experience in Public Administration or Bachelors Degree with one year of professional experience working in administration.

License or Certification :

Possession of or ability to obtain a Colorado Driver’s License within two weeks of employment

Background Check

Must pass a criminal background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Primarily sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
