Position Summary

Load and unload chemicals and bulk solids, including equipment, tools, sand, into or from tank cars, trucks, or trailers using material moving equipment. May perform a variety of other tasks relating to shipment of products. Maintain facility in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and supplies. Working with all managers, department supervision and security to carry out work demands.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Operates loading and unloading equipment, conveyors, hoists, and other specialized material handling equipment including railroad tank car unloading equipment.

* Monitors product movement to and from storage tanks, coordinating activities with other workers to ensure constant product flow.

* Records operating data such as products and quantities pumped, gauge readings, and operating times, manually or using computers.

* Checks conditions and weights of vessels to ensure cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures.

* Operates industrial trucks, tractors, loaders and other equipment to transport materials to and from transportation vehicles and loading docks, and to store and retrieve materials in warehouses.

* Monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.

* Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms. Gathers and empties trash. Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.

* Notifies managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.

* Recommend improvements or new programs.

* Perform data entry in telematics and various asset management systems.

* Requisitions supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.

* Perform other related duties as assigned.

Educational and Other Requirements

* High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, not required

* Minimum one year experience as Material Handler I, or equivalent skill and knowledge required.

* Minimum one year experience as Material Handler II, or equivalent skill and knowledge before promoting to Material Handler III

* Basic education, reading, writing and math skills needed to perform responsibilities.

* Prior experience is preferred but not necessary. Training on the job provided.
