Description

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services to outpatients, inpatients, and various hospital departments.Uses technology to help maintain records, prepare medications, and manage inventory.

  • Preparation, distribution, delivery and stocking of all medications in the hospital.
  • Preparation of IV admixtures, parenteral and enteral nutrition formulations, sterile irrigation solutions, unit dose narcotics and extemporaneously compounded topical and oral medications.
  • Conducting monthly drug inventory and storage inspections.
  • Protects patients by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Completed annual competencies and complies with USP compounding regulations.
  • Electronic health record operator.
  • Billing and crediting of patients medications.
  • Pyxis maintenance and operation.
  • Maintains sterility in pharmacy, clean rooms according to current regulations.
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Medication reconciliation
  • Technician checking other techs for floor stock items
Requirements
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write, and have good interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must successfully complete in-house training program consisting of pharmaceutical calculations, aseptic technique, sterile compounding, and extemporaneous compounding.
  • Previous experience as pharmacy technician preferred.
  • Chemo Certification preferred.
  • Good basic mathematical skills and familiarity with the metric system are necessary.
  • Must have the ability to follow verbal instructions and pay close attention to details.
  • Must have certification as a Pharmacy Technician from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Pharmacy Technician State Licensure in Colorado.
  • If Pharmacy Technician certification has lapsed a provisional state license is required before employee can begin work.

    • In order to obtain provisional licensure the following criteria must be met:

      • Proof of payment for provisional licensure.
      • If name change documentation is necessary, proof must be provided of name change.
      • Proof of other pharmacy tech licenses must be provided.
      • An employer-based background check will be conducted, which must be turned in to Colorado DORA.
      • The employee will have to provide information regarding certification by approved national certification board to Colorado DORA.
      • The employee will have to answer general and criminal screening questions and upload supporting documentation to Colorado DORA.
    • Employee will not be able to begin working until Colorado provisional licensure has been verified by HR.
    • Employee will have 18 months to receive their certification as a Certified Pharmacy Tech; failure to receive certification within this time frame will result in employee being removed from this position.
