DescriptionJOB SUMMARY: Ensure safe preparation/dispensing and cost-effective (inventory control) management of the entire medication use process. Oversee daily workflow; supervise pharmacy technicians in their assigned clinic.JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:Review and assess medication orders.Compound and dispense medications, antineoplastic drugs, and intravenous admixtures.Ensure medications are prepared, labeled, and dispensed accurately and in a timely manner.Understand USP 797, USP 800, and proper aseptic technique.Ensure all doses of intravenous admixtures prepared by Pharmacy Technicians are checked.Manage purchases/returns/recalls and inventory of all pharmaceutical agents and medical supplies. Work closely with vendors to ensure receipt of the most cost-effective products.Maintain drug replacement and sample medication inventory separate from purchased inventory.Participate in drug study audits.Oversee Pharmacy Technicians.Prepare chemotherapy and intravenous medications.Perform daily hood cleaning and documentation.Maintain daily temperature logs.Conduct monthly inventory process ensuring accurate drug count and expiration date documentation.Conduct monthly emergency drug box/crash cart inventory and expiration date check.Perform quality assurance activities as assigned.Provide drug information to patients, physicians, nurses, and Team Members. Counsel patients regarding medications.Provide orientation and training to Pharmacy Team Members.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Participate in continuing education/training activities, including monthly online training. Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and Team Members. Ensure that supplies and equipment are stored in an organized and efficient manner. Demonstrate correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information. Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies. Participate in economical utilization of supplies and ensure equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner. Assist patients, family members, or caregivers with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner. Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquiries to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated. Identify yourself in a pleasant and positive manner. Take responsibility for helping the caller. Assist in the orientation/training for new colleagues. Assist other Team Members in the performance of their assignments. Seek out opportunities to help rather than waiting to be asked. Consider the impact of your actions on Team Members throughout CARTI. Take directions and initiate actions (cross/additional training) that will allow the assumption of cross-functional duties to ensure seamless workflow. Demonstrate flexibility to perform duties wherever deemed necessary. Demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise, and professional manner. Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns. Investigate and follow through on unusual orders or requests for service or information. Follow proper reporting procedures for actual or potential accidents and/or incidents so follow up and/or prevention can occur. Record/report the need for service maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from service. Consistently evaluate work and determine if further steps are needed to meet patient expectations. Take initiative to redo inadequate or incomplete work, even if it is not yours. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary. Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the future needs of the company (e.g., education, organizing, housekeeping, and assisting others). Organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frames. Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions without direct supervision. Adhere to administrative and departmental policies. Ensure that the Pharmacy is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner by adhering to CARTI attendance policies as documented in the CARTI Policy and Procedure Manual. Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness. Remain conscientious in regard to personal hygiene. Demonstrate adherence to CARTI's dress code policy Comply with all CARTI policies and procedures concerning safety. Comply with all CARTI infection control policies and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all CARTI policies and procedures and the ability to reference them from appropriate sources. Demonstrate adherence to and support of company-wide service standards as evidenced by observation and feedback from patients, family members, or caregivers. OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: NoneSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Assists PIC or Pharmacy Manager in overseeing daily activities of Pharmacy Technicians.EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE and REGISTRATION:Doctoral Degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred but not required. Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy (P.D.) requiredValid Arkansas Pharmacy licenseEXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: 2-4 years' experience in IV Admixture Experience in oncology preferred Knowledge of medical terminology Basic math skills Organizational skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of aseptic technique and USP 797 requirements Ability and willingness to work with potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including chemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs, and cleaning solutions) and sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items Ability to operate a computer Ability to handle a high volume of work with acceptable speed and accuracy Ability to stand and walk for a long period of time REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
