Job Description **Primary Location**

: United States of America-OHIO-Hancock County-Findlay Compensation : $20.76 per hour CDL Field Representative ( 22000101 ) **Job Duties**

**Ohio Department of Public Safety - Bureau of Motor Vehicles/Driver Exam Services/District 1 Findlay** **Work Hours:** 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday - Friday, Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. **Report in location:** 8210 County Road 140, Suite B, Findlay, Ohio 45840 Within assigned Bureau of Motor Vehicle (BMV) District, monitors & evaluates third party Commercial Driver License (CDL) testing locations by conducting onsite visits (e.g., ensure testing site's policies & procedures are consistent with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act (FMSCA), Ohio Revised Code (ORC) &/or Ohio Administrative Code (OAC); confirm credentials & insurance coverage; conducts ride-along with third party vendor to ensure CDL testing is being administered in compliance with applicable federal &/or state procedures & statutes; etc.); Prepares detailed report summarizing findings & recommends corrective action as needed; Keeps abreast of any changes in motor vehicle laws & division policies & procedures; Assists in training new third party examiners by conducting technical & instructional training. Conducts & scores CDL skills & maneuverability examination (e.g., determines the appropriate examination to be administered; administers pre-trip inspection to determine whether applicant knows vehicle is safe to drive; administers basic control skills test; scores examination to determine whether applicant has passed &/or failed; etc.) as outlined in the commercial driver license examiner manual; Administers & scores various examinations (e.g., written, oral, interpreter, video, vision, &/or other special BMV examinations, etc.) for all types of licenses & issues medical paperwork to applicants who fail vision exam; Tests &/or screens applicants for disabilities &/or medical problems & determines whether or not restrictions should be placed on applicants license; Conducts & scores driving skills &/or maneuverability examinations (e.g., conducts vehicle inspections; scores examination to determine whether applicant has passed &/or failed; etc.) as outlined in the driver license examiner manual. Performs all necessary desk duties (e.g., provides information concerning licensing & examination procedures to applicants; evaluates applicant information &/or documentation for all types of driver licenses; operates computer to schedule appointments; etc.); Performs all routine operations of one or multi-person examining stations as assigned (e.g., prepares, checks & submits all station reports; periodically reviews manuals to ensure they are current; opens & closes office; ensures examination papers are secure; periodically checks testing forms for uniformity of grading; checks station files for accuracy & disposes of outdated reports &/or materials; etc.). Determines when examinations should be cancelled due to weather conditions; Sets up, tears down & maintains maneuverability examination sites; Performs other duties as assigned (e.g., maintains office & facility site; maintains cleanliness of state owned vehicles & reports needed maintenance; answers phones; orders needed supplies &/or equipment; etc.). **Qualifications**

Formal education in arithmetic that includes calculating fractions, decimals & percentages & in reading, writing & speaking English; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in human/public relations; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in operation of a personal computer; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in typing or word processing; successful completion of driver education & safety course &/or defensive driving course, instructor training course, driver license examiner course or any other related driver training course; valid Class A Commercial Driver License. **Major Worker Characteristics** **KNOWLEDGE:** Lead Work; Safety Practices (e.g., Driver education & safety); Public Relations; (*) Agency Policies & Procedures (ODPS & BMV); Government Structure & Process (e.g., Laws & signs applicable for operation of motorized vehicles); (*) Interviewing; Law (Federal applicable laws & signs). **SKILL:** (*) Equipment Operations (e.g., All types of commercial vehicles with all endorsements & other types of motorized vehicles, general office equipment). **ABILITY:** Reasoning: deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context; Numerical: calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; Clerical: gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; Interpersonal: handle routine & sensitive telephone & in-person inquiries from & contacts with public, representatives of third party test sites, driving schools & other government agencies & resolve controversies with fairness; PHYSICAL: DEMONSTRATE DEXTERITY TO conduct pre-trip inspections, lift/move equipment to set up & maintain basic control skills test site & dexterity in use of hands, arms, legs & feet to operate all types of motor vehicles for which examinations are administered & test drive routes; Read, write & speak English; Administer & score examinations in accordance to prescribed guidelines.

(*) Developed after employment **Supplemental Information** **TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT:** Must maintain valid Class A Commercial Driver License. Must obtain school bus, passenger and tanker endorsements. **UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:** Required to ride in automobiles & commercial vehicles with inexperienced drivers; exposed to dust, dirt & exhaust fumes; exposed to weather conditions when working outside; required to travel from one examination facility to another if assigned; must provide own transportation; may be required to work flexible hours.

* This position will be filled in accordance with the applicable bargaining agreement.
