We are currently seeking a full-time Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Metropolitan State Hospital located in Norwalk, California.

50 Per hour + Benefits and 401k

M-F Day shift - hours flexible 6am-2:30pm, 7am-3:00pm

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will work under the general direction of the departmental Pathologist and the Supervising Clinical Laboratory Technologist to perform a full range of clinical laboratory procedures according to established protocols. This includes gathering and preparing laboratory specimens, making smears, examining cultures, recording test results, and reviewing them for completeness and accuracy. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will also help ensure that the department is in compliance with the Joint Commission and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) requirements and participate in the departmental Quality Assurance and Improvement program

Qualifications

• Graduate degree required
• Valid registration with the Commission of Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required
• Must be appropriately and actively certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Must have knowledge of principles, practices, and theories of nutrition and dietetics, methods of planning, preparing and serving food to a large number of persons, and special nutrition-related requirements (age, culture, ethnicity, social, religion/creed) of mentally or developmentally disabled persons
• Must have ability to apply the principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics, assess nutritional status to develop nutrition care plans, communicate nutritional data to the written record and to the healthcare team, explain dietetic requirements to clients/patients/staff/others, keep records and prepare reports, and analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
