Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Specialist II Norwich, NY (oogle.com/maps?q=Norwich+NY+USA+13815) Apply Job Type Full-time Description Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Specialist II Full Time, Wage $16.50-17.75 Working Broome and Chenango County ALL TRAINING PAID AND PROVIDED Basic Schedule, but subject to change, based on program needs: + Tuesday:1:30pm-8:30pm (Chenango) - OR - 8:30-4:30 (Broome) + Wednesday: 12:30-9:00pm (Chenango) + Thursday: 12:30-9:00pm (Chenango) + Friday: 12:45-9:45pm (Broome) + Saturday: 8:30-3:30pm (Broome) TheTherapeutic Recreation and Leisure Specialist IIis responsible for the planning, implementation, and the oversight of the Recreation Respite Program as well as recreation activities and other leisure services within other agency programs. The position’s specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Ensure quality opportunities for all families/participants registered for ACHIEVE’s Recreation and Leisure Services. + Provide planning, promotion, implementation, and facilitation of recreation activities that are on the program schedule as well as spontaneous programs as assigned. + For Day Habilitation and Residential programs: Research interactive activities, create a calendar, prepare activities, provide supplies, facilitate the programming. Programming will be provided multiple times per week depending on the needs of each program. If not able to facilitate the program, supplies and directions will be provided to DSP program staff to implement the activity. + Foster and promote independent leisure pursuits of participants by providing necessary tools and supplies. + Ensure that all recreation equipment and supplies are properly stored and properly maintained. + Assist with creating program calendars for all recreation activities offered to participants. + Transport participants to recreation and leisure activities as needed. + Strive to meet the American Therapeutic Recreation (ATRA) Standards of Practice + Provide supervision and direct care responsibilities with program participants. + Responsible for addressing and reporting all incidents, accidents, violations, deficiencies observed and/or suspected situations which adversely impact on the health and safety of individuals receiving services to direct supervisor as they are discovered or indicated. + Follow department and facility policies and procedures to assure that the cognitive, physical, psychological/emotional, social, and spiritual needs of participants are met and maintained. What we are looking for: + Actively cooperate with the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services and the Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Coordinators to achieve the goals and objectives of all recreation programs. + Encourage and maintain a positive working relationship with all departments in the agency, parents, staff, individuals receiving services and community partners. + Attend and participate in all required and/or requested departmental or agency meetings. + Complete required documentation and perform documentation reviews to ensure all records are maintained in conformance with rules, regulations, policies and procedures and billing practices. + Obtain and maintain required training certifications that include: First Aid, CPR, etc. (paid for and provided by the agency). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: + Possess good interpersonal, written, oral, and communication abilities and effective time management/organizational skills. + Able to work scheduled hours that may include overtime, weekend and/or holiday timeframes and maintain an acceptable work attendance as defined in the agency’s personnel policy manual and handbook. + Be computer literate with knowledge of agency operating systems and applicable software required for department needs. + Able to generate and present comprehensive written reports and respond to questions about the report. + Demonstrate sound judgment in normal work and emergency situations. + Must physically be able to perform required certifications and lift fifty (50) pounds. #humanservices #Norwich #Binghamton #OPWDD #DSP Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: + High School Diploma or GED + Some direct experience working with individuals that have functional differences preferred + A valid driver’s license and record that meets the agency’s insurance carrier guidelines Salary Description $16.50-17.75
