About the job Histology Technician Located in Fishersville, Virginia, Blue Ridge Pathologists is a private medical practice which has long been affiliated with Augusta Health. Blue Ridge Pathologists has longstanding roots in Augusta County and surrounding areas in the Shenandoah Valley. We provide a full range of pathology services to Augusta Health as well as to private medical offices throughout western Virginia.We are seeking a certified, or certification-eligible, Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) to staff our laboratory. In this role, you will process and prepare the surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for Pathology examination. You will work under the Pathology Laboratory Manager alongside an outstanding team of Pathologists and Histology Technicians to process, cut and stain slides to be examined for tissue abnormalities. Specific duties include the following:Follow the laboratory's procedure for specimen collection, handling, and processing, as well as test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of test results.Receive and log gross samples for immediate processing and examination.Document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenanceAssesses quality and appropriateness of specimens receivedPerform routine and special Histology staining procedures accurately.Perform minor Histology procedures in conjunction with other Histology personnel such as specimen registration, specimen disposal, filing slides and completing appropriate paperwork for consults.Participate in all departmental training programs.Provide positive, warm and friendly customer service in all interactions.Foster teamwork and a positive, professional atmosphere.Adhere to safety policies as defined by the practice and OSHA.Complete other duties as directed.REQUIREMENTSGraduate of an approved Histology School preferred.Previous Histology Technician experience preferred.Certified or Eligible for HT or HTL certification by ASCP.HOURSFull Time / 40 hours per weekM - F, 430 a.m. to 1 p.m.
