As a Pediatric Dentist, you will administer care to patients as part of UPMC Children's program of pediatric primary and preventive dental care. Responsibilities: Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out appropriate dental/oral treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines. Appropriate dental/oral treatment occurs both in the traditional clinic setting, as well as procedures performed on patients under anesthesia in an outpatient surgical center or procedure center setting. Records patient dentist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. In addition the dentist shall complete referrals, data collection instruments and other records or paperwork as shall be required from time to time. Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health disease prevention. Discusses Dental Departmental issues, concerns, program status, initiatives, and progress to the Operations Manager of the Pediatric Dental Program. Supervises and educates pediatric dental residents and allied health professionals (i.e. dental hygienists, dental assistants) along with the team of pediatric dentist colleagues. Helps to implement appropriate Dental Departmental policies, protocols and procedures which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards. Assists in the provision of health education to the community as requested. Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality. Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
