Description

Job Summary:

The Bus Driver will safely operate transit buses of varying sizes transporting customers within routes established by the Public Transit System in accordance with applicable Transit Management work rules, policies, and procedures. Includes adherence to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and other state and local traffic laws. Must meet Department of Transportation Physical Standards.

Essential Functions/Process Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned as necessary:
  • Operate transit buses safely on prescribed routes as directed. Conduct pre and post trip vehicle inspections and document on appropriate forms.
  • Collects/records bus fares, and transfers in accordance with Lake County Transit procedures.
  • Promote exemplary customer service of the Lake County Transit System by providing safe, courteous, and dependable service while transporting customers.
  • Input information into computer-based equipment such as Automated Vehicle Locator (AVL) Automatic Passenger Counter (APC), fare-box and destination displays (requires touch key entering) as technology exists.
  • Able to read and interpret maps and complex schedules and provide route and schedule information to transit customers.
  • Assist in the boarding of disable customers who require the aid of accessible vehicles (wheelchairs/scooters) for the purpose of mobility. Involves bending, stooping and twisting while securing belts and straps to ensure the patron and vehicle is tied down in a manner that ensures a safe ride (Ability to push pull wheelchair patrons).
  • Operate two-way bus radio system in accordance with Lake County Transit established policies and procedures and the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).
  • Announce major streets, stops and destinations per ADA regulations.
  • Adhere to the uniform application of the Labor Agreement, Performance Code, Safety Procedures and Operational Bulletins.
  • Requires prolong sitting while driving/operating transit bus. Includes reaching above head to adjust mirrors and destination signs during pre-trip inspection
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must maintain a Commercial Class "A" or "B" CDL Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement. CDL training is available.

  • Ability to problem-solve under stressful conditions and tight time lines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population.
  • Ability to effectively manage and resolve customer conflicts.
  • Ability to work in a "Team" focused environment and assist other "Team" members achieve their objectives.
