General Summary The Cardiac Cath Manager (CCM) is a professional Registered Nurse who assumes management responsibility for the Cardiac Cath Lab. The CCM takes an active role in Cardiac based quality initiatives and supports the Director of Cardiology Services in achieving the goals and objectives of the Cardiac Cath Lab. Essential Duties and Responsibilities# Manages the day to day operations of the cardiac catheterization lab and cardiac stress lab. Makes adjustments to the staffing levels to provide adequate patient care and optimization of financial resources. Delegates workload and manages the cath lab and stress lab schedules to reduce non-productive time. Coordinates with physicians to ensure optimal workflow throughout the day. Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, critical lab notification, etc. to insure that patient care is provided in an optimally safe environment. Coaches/counsels assigned staff members on safety standards. Monitors documentation of staff as assigned to contribute to compliance with quality goals. Completes all required paperwork such as daily sheets, staffing logs, monthly stats, etc. All actions are performed within the guidelines established in hospital policy and procedure. These actions will support quality outcomes and patient safety Monitors quality of assessments and staff compliance with safety measures. Provides constructive feedback as needed to improve performance. Provides support and education to staff regarding quality initiatives, outcomes, and process change. Participates in process change to achieve quality outcomes communicating support of identified quality goals to all staff members. Participates in quality monitoring activities as assigned by the unit director. Displays critical thinking skills in patient and situation assessment to identify areas that are in need of improvement and intervention. Guides and directs patient care staff in situations to insure that quality outcomes are met and that patients are satisfied with their care experience. Provides professional feedback to staff members in an attempt to improve nursing practice. Communicates to physicians and appropriate team members pertinent patient information in order to improve patient outcomes and quality care. Communicates to patient and family members in a timely manner that enhances the patient experience and promotes learning to support health care outcomes. Performs service recovery as needed. Follows-up on all patient care concerns in a professional manner. Delegates appropriately to team members while maintaining an atmosphere fostering team work and accountability. Demonstrates understanding of the dynamics of health care, adapting to change in a positive and professional manner in an attempt to support the hospital mission, vision, and values. Reviews and updates current policy and procedures for cardiac cath lab and stress lab. Provides quality nursing care including administration of medications, nursing intervention, and patient and family teaching. Functions as circulator and monitor during cardiac and peripheral cath lab cases. Administers conscious sedation by PCRMC hospital policies, peri-procedural pharmacologic agents and emergent medications safely and as needed. Performs initial and ongoing assessments in all aspects of patient care to monitor patient status, improve quality, enhance patient safety, and to provide accurate information to health care team members. Job Qualifications Education Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred. Work Experience Two years critical care or equivalent nursing experience required. Supervisory experience is preferred. Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab experience is preferred. Certification/License Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure. BLS and ACLS through the American Heart Association required. Mental/Physical Requirements Considerable mental concentration required. Requires frequent heavy lifting and turning activities and nearly constant walking. Standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching required. Working Conditions Minimal physical discomfort. Moderate level of auditory distractions. Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and body fluids. Frequent exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and hostile persons at times. Works with sharps and other potentially biohazardous material. Ability to function under stress required.
