Description
Newaygo County is looking for interested persons who are qualified to act as a Public Defender for the Newaygo County Circuit Court Family Division. The position performs as an independant contractor providing legal representation for indigent individuals involved with neglect/abuse and juvenile caseloads. Qualified candidates must be an attorney in good standing with the Michinga Bar Associaton.
Examples of Duties
- Provides legal represenation for indigent indivuals involved with the Neglect/Abuse and Juvenile caseloads for Newaygo County Circuit Court - Family Division.
- Serves as the primary Public Defender appointed as guardian ad litem for children in Neglect/Abuse cases under the court's jurisdiction.
- Serves on a rotation call basis for coverage of cases and is responsible for coverage if not available.
- Responsible for keeeping records of appearances and services for indigent individuals
- Experience with Family Division cases preferred.
- Must be an attorney in good standing with the Michigan Bar Association.
- Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License: and must possess and maintain an excellent driving record.
- Must follow the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct as adopted by the Michigan Supreme Court.
- Must maintain liability insurance and provide copies of said insurance in accordance with Newaygo County's Purchasing Policy.
- Must submit to a background investigation.
- Must submit cover letter, resume, and three (3) professional references.
