SMART Clinician

Salary Range: $41-60/hr

Position Requirements: This position performs a variety of clinical and administrative duties as part of a System-wide Mental Assessment Response Team (SMART), also commonly referred to as a co-responder model of mobile crisis intervention. The SMART response model consists of two-person teams comprised of a law enforcement officer and a mental/behavioral health counselor. The team is responsible for intervening on mental health-related police calls (and other crisis calls) to de-escalate situations that have historically resulted in arrest or hospitalization, and to assess whether the person in crisis should be referred for a higher level of mental health care. The SMART unit provides a wide variety of specialized skills, services, and response capabilities reflecting the intersection of Summit Countys diverse community and its relationship to mental health.

The SMART Clinician must be able to effectively respond to, provide, manage, and coordinate professional mental health services and system support services. The role of the clinician will be to ensure continuity of care including: an immediate and professional evaluation, collaboration with proper agencies, referral to appropriate type and level of service, and advocacy for treatment deemed necessary. Additionally, there are other duties as directed by the Clinical Program Manager such as: public service events, public outreach and education and response to other community events related to crisis. The SMART Clinician serves as a mid-level staff who reports to the SMART Clinical Program Manager. Work is reviewed through analysis of records and reports, clinical supervision, and regular meetings on unusual or difficult problems. This position ensures daily activities of the SMART unit provide the highest level of public safety to all. The SMART unit is composed of four law enforcement positions, four clinical positions, and two administrative positions.

Qualifications Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or closely related degree from an accredited program. Licensed or license eligible in the State of Colorado (LPC, LCSW, PSY), candidates for licensure (LPCC, LCSWC) may also be considered given they meet the rest of the requirements. Experience working with Crisis response and intervention, suicide assessment and safety planning, hospitalization, and community systems collaboration. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and diverse populations. Must be able to pass a background check, psychological examination, polygraph examination, and obtain a security clearance for work with Criminal Justice Records. Must have or obtain a Colorado Drivers License within 60 days of appointment and maintain throughout employment and know how to safely operate a motor vehicle. Experience working with co-response and law enforcement preferred. Bi-lingual preferred. Candidates proceeding in the process will be required to complete a Sheriffs Office Civilian Application.
