Coder Abstractor II Position Summary

The primary function of the Coder/Abstractor II is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information accounts to ensure accurate data retrieval, analysis and claims processing. Adheres to all Medical Center policies and procedures as well as abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and adheres to the Official ICD-10 Coding Guidelines.

Education
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of medical terminology course.
  • Completion of anatomy and physiology course.
  • Completion of coding course preferred.
Required License and/or Certification
  • CCS Certification through AHIMA required within two (2) years of employment.
Experience
  • Experience with reviewing hospital facility accounts required.
  • Experience with ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding required.
  • Experience with ICD-10-PCS inpatient procedure coding and CPT-4 outpatient procedure coding required.
  • Experience utilizing the Epic electronic health record and the 3m 360 encoder preferred
Coder Abstractor II Benefits
  • At TidalHealth, full-time employees working at least 72 hours per pay period, part-time employees working at least 36 hours per pay period and part-time employees working at least 30 hours or more on weekends only are eligible for benefits.
