Description

Under the direction of the Department Manager, provides quality service to ensure surgical cases are carried out smoothly and efficiently.Functions under the supervision of a qualified professional nurse.Assures that patient and surgeon needs are met.Provides for open communication within the unit, with patients, families, physicians, other units and departments.Demonstrates knowledge of patient/staff safety measures.Builds and maintains professional relationships.Responsible for completion of Central Processing Coordinator job duties on a rotating basis to ensure proper sterilization and availability of instruments to be used in the Operating Rooms.

  • Provides surgical case assistance to ensure the procedures are carried out smoothly and efficiently
  • Prepares room and supplies for each patient utilizing physician preference card and knowledge of surgical procedure and aseptic technique
  • Knows surgical steps for procedure
  • Knows equipment to be utilized for each procedure
  • Maintains a sterile field beginning with opening of supplies through surgical procedure to placement of dressing
  • Wears proper OR attire as cited in OR policies and procedures
  • Helps with patient positioning on OR table with the guidance and supervision of RN
  • Performs surgical prep under supervision of RN
  • Opens sterile supplies for operative field as needed
  • Cleans room for following procedure directly after the finish of previous case to facilitate minimal turnover time
  • Maintains flexibility regarding daily job functions
  • Helps with sterile processing
  • Pulls supplies and instruments for cases for following day
  • Updates surgeons preference cards as changes occur
Requirements
  • A high school education or equivalency is required
  • One year relevant experience
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program as a Certified OR Tech
  • Must maintain Certification in the State of Colorado as a OR Tech
  • BLS Certification required
