DescriptionJOB PURPOSEThe Medical Records Director is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health team and assumes responsibility for medical records maintenance according to the departmental guidelines.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProtects the confidentiality of patients and their records at all times by complying with the health center Patient Confidentiality policy. Assures and maintains patient confidentiality of all medical records. Does not discuss patient information with anyone, unless it is directly related to the case of the patient. Politely reminds any other staff who may be discussing patients in open areas of confidentiality policy and HIPAA policy. Obtains the proper release from patient before sending records outside the health center. Destroys any purged or duplicated copies of records by shredding.Responsible for proper maintenance of all records. Scans documents into appropriate section of the EMR.Coordinates the copying of medical records and copies the requested information. Maintains release. Scans original release into electronic record.Maintains a close working relationship with all staff to ensure optimal patient flow. Communicates clearly and effectively with co-workers. Offers assistance to other departments when bottlenecks occur in patient flow.Performs other related duties of the department as needed. Participates in Performance Improvement Team as needed. Attends all staff meetings. Participates in training other staff and new employees in the medical records department.Processes and maintains records of letters to patients. Produces letters for physicians as needed.Establishes forms used by FHCSO and catalogs on computer for computer access.Creates computer access of all FHCSO policy and procedure manuals and updates medical records policies and procedures as needed.Verifies completion and accuracy of documentation and communicates with providers accordingly.Follows the mission and vision statement.All other duties as assigned.RequirementsQUALIFICATIONSHigh School Graduate, minimum Health Information Management Degree preferred.Ability to work and communicate with multidisciplinary healthcare team and the public.General knowledge of computer processing and experience required.Experience in medical records or clerical duties preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
