  • Ophthalmic Technician Certification preferred
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers
  • Experience in medical front office procedures preferred
  • Must have proven ability to maintain professional conduct and confidentiality in the care of patients
  • Must possess basic computer skills

Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician works with Ophthalmologist to provide patient care by performing many different eye related clinical functions. Ophthalmic Technicians assist Ophthalmologists by taking patient histories, perform various procedures and tests, and prepares patients for exam.

Duties
  • Assists ophthalmologist with patient procedures
  • Obtains and records age appropriate and relevant patient information
  • Instructs patients about medications, tests and procedures
  • Performs various vision and diagnostic tests
  • Answers telephone calls, identifying self and clinic/practice
  • Receives and documents telephone messages and gives to the appropriate person
  • Schedules appointments with accurate patient information
  • Types various documents accurately and as directed
  • Gets authorizations from insurance companies for referrals
  • Confirms appointment schedule and follow-up of missed appointments
  • Assists in maintenance of a neat, orderly and accurate medical record filing system
  • Maintains a neat, clean and functional work station
  • Trains other ophthalmic technicians
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Lifting Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or fee objects. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods, occasionally required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. Generally lifting objects not more than 25 Ibs. and/or carrying objects weighing 10 Ibs.
