UH Lakewood specializes in high-risk maternal and child care, and serves as one of the few Kansas City metro area institutions accredited by The Joint Commission in Orthopedics and Palliative Care. It also is home to a 188-bed, fully accredited long-term care center. UH Behavioral Health is the KC metro area's largest, most comprehensive provider of mental health services. We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. We are a leader in the Trauma-Informed Care Movement, and provide training, coaching and consulting to outside organizations. Job Description Works under the direct supervision of the Anatomical Pathology (AP) supervisor and serves in a supportive role to the Anatomic Pathology Team to assist in providing timely specimen collection, specimen processing, specimen distribution, and test result reporting for Cytology, Histology, and Pathology department. Is expected to work independently to ensure timely processing of all Histology and Cytology specimens. Responsible for general and specific duties as outlined below depending on specific job assignment. Cleans laboratory equipment as necessary and assists in clerical duties of the department. Performs duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Detailed knowledge of clerical and office practices and detailed knowledge of computer and troubleshooting Good organizational abilities, time management and priority setting Good working knowledge of hospital functions, working knowledge of good supervisory practices, laboratory functions, and adult learning principles and teaching techniques Preferred Qualifications Associates or Bachelor's degree in a medical/science/healthcare degree - preferable knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy Experience in histology or cytology
