Our team values the work components of every member to create a culture of people helping people and making a difference in our lives and those we serve.Job Description:Under the direction of the Pharmacy Supervisor/Lead and Clinical Manager, Pacific Cancer Care (PCC), the Pharmacy Technician will perform and/or be responsible for the following:•Responsible for preparation and charging of intravenous medications, Clinical Trial medications and supplies.•Enters, processes, and interprets physician orders as assigned. Compounds, delivers medications and supplies to patient care areas.•Aseptically compound parenteral products under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and Medical Oncologist.•Assists with product purchasing, inventory and equipment management. Maintain confidentiality of patient and proprietary information.•Participates in the process for assessing, managing, and reporting medication-related incidents and equipment error and/or failures.•Operate in horizontal and vertical laminar flow hoods with strict aseptic technique.•Have basic knowledge of routes of medication, dosage forms and equipment permitting the appropriate selection of needle and syringe size, containers and accessories for medication preparation.•Assist staff nursing staff in the maintenance of pharmacy patient charts.•Maintain admixture area in a clean and sanitary manner.•Participate in purchasing, stocking, and inventory control as required by the Director.•Be aware of hazards associated with and handling of chemotherapeutic drugs and other hazardous substances. Adhere to the proper handling, preparation and disposal of such drugs.•Maintain pharmacy maintenance logs daily to ensure all duties are performed per JCAHO and Company standards.QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience in pharmacy preferred. Pharmacy program externship. Associate Degree and successful completion of ASHP Basics of Aseptic Compounding Technique Video Training Program/DVD if applicable are preferred.•Graduation from accredited High School required.•Graduation from Pharmacy Technician program required.•Retail/hospital pharmacy experience preferred•Computer and typing experience/skills required.•Demonstrated excellent people skills, verbal skills and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced environment.KNOWLEDGE OF: •Medical terminology•Medical office practices•Universal Precautions•Injection techniques•Injection medications•Computer skills•Telephone skills•Customer service practices•Computer and typing experience/skills required.•Demonstrated excellent people skills, verbal skills and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced environment.ABILITY TO: •Type 20-25 words/minute•Multitask: ability to handle, use and respond to patients, phones, staff/MDs and computers simultaneously.•Stand for long periods while compounding infusions•Speak clearly to be understood by patients, MDs, and staff.•Maintain pace of practice•Maintain confidentiality/HIPPA•Understanding of Oncology and support drugsPHYSICAL FACTORS: The physical abilities required of this position may include the following:•Vision sufficient to read handwritten, typed and computer documents throughout the shift•Speech and hearing sufficient to receive and communicate detailed information clearly by phone and in person•Motor skills sufficient to operate computer terminal, fax machine, copier, and telephone•Manual dexterity sufficient to use a variety of hand-held tools and to manipulate IV bags, syringes, vials and needles•Physical ability to reach, lift, and bend to retrieve and/or file materials•Physical ability to sit, stand or otherwise remain stationary at work post for long periods of time•Physical ability to walk hallways between departments.•Physical ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.•Physical ability to walk up and down one flight of stairs and between departments.
