Job Overview

Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Synthesizing, characterizes, and formulates advanced monomer and polymer systems for solid rocket motor components
  • Formulates and develops polymer systems for 3D printing (e.g. vat photopolymerization or direct ink write).

  • Regular travel ~10% will be required for the position.

Required Qualifications
• United States Citizenship
• Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance
• Must have one year of experience at the DR-01 (or equivalent) grade level

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in Chemical Synthesis and Characterization

    - Performs chemical synthesis of monomers and polymers.
    - Evaluates materials using appropriate chemical analysis techniques such as: NMR, FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, XRD, GC-MS, GPC
    - Develops new processing techniques for thermoset-based and/or thermoplastic-based solid rocket motor components.
  • Experience in Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing

    - Formulates and develops polymer systems for 3D printing (e.g. vat photopolymerization or direct ink writing).
    - Troubleshoots printer hardware and identifies solutions and improvements to increase performance or mitigate problems.
    - Analyzes 3D printed material using standard mechanical analysis techniques such as TMA, DMA, tensile testing
  • Experience in Oral Communication

    - Presents technical briefings or conference presentations on activities related to research projects(s).
    - Consults with co-workers and other groups or organizations for ideas on issues/concerns to obtain diverse viewpoints and/or recommended solutions.
    - Prepares and presents briefings/presentations on consultations, studies, or investigations.
    - Promotes interchange of information on mission requirements, capabilities, deficiencies, and/or technology applications with peers, customers and/or other agencies.
    - Share knowledge and expertise on newly developed analytical methods with others.
  • Experience in Written Communication
    - Composes and compiles information, concepts, and ideas in a clear, concise, well-organized manner.
    - Authors or contribute to technical reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, proposals, briefing materials, and/or conference presentations on assigned research activities.
    - Records research activities and compiles data in a laboratory notebook according to scientific standards.
