*These positions are open to incoming juniors & seniors in High School of partnering school districts. Due to limited positions, incoming seniors of partnering school districts will be given priority *

Position Summary:

Under the direction of Childcare Director, responsible for providing a quality camp experience for children; ensuring their safety and growth. Also responsible for the physical and emotional safety of children participating in activities.

Essential Functions:
  • Take effective training sessions in order to learn and implement age-appropriate supervision that is safe and supportive of campers.
  • Effectively assists in implementation of weekly lesson plans that fit the children's needs, interests, and developmental levels at camp.
  • Work effectively as a team with all Camp Staff.
  • Learn and teach camp songs and games.
  • Participate in activity set up and tear down.
  • Effectively lead large group activities such as games, gatherings, meals, breaks, etc.
  • Ensure safety by firmly and tactfully enforcing all aquatic rules, policies, and guidelines.
  • To implement all ACA and YMCA rules and regulation.
  • Responsible for the welfare and safety of children enrolled in the group and in the program including maintaining appropriate ratio and supervision at all times with heightened awareness on field trips.
  • Effectively communicates verbal and written reports to parents.
  • Possesses working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and follows proper reporting procedures including confidentiality regarding children and families participating in camp.
  • Implement set standards, guidelines, and programs.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records including attendance, absenteeism, transitions, and incidents for each child in assigned group.
  • Ensure safety by checking for hazardous conditions and making sure all safety equipment is properly placed and in proper working condition.
  • Work well independently as well as with a staff team.
  • Characterize a positive role model.
  • Provide excellence in program service and delivery.
  • Maintain and improve facilities through proper use and maintenance.
  • Report any concerns to supervisor.
  • Understands the Child Abuse Prevention Code of Conduct - does not supervise children in the locker room or take them away from the group without being accompanied by a Day Camp Counselor.
  • Attends all staff day camp training.
  • Other duties as assigned by management staff that adhere to the minor labor laws.
Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in Highschool program
  • Obtain 2 written references to bring to the interview.
  • Must be 16 - 17 years old.
  • Ability to attend and effective pass childcare, CPR, First aid, and Babysitting training.
  • Ability to attend All Staff Day Camp training
  • One or more years of related childcare experience required.
  • Must know how to actively engage children in activities that will enhance their self-esteem.
