General Information:
Job title: OR Surgical Technician
Schedule: 80 hours per pay period; Monday - Friday, 7:00-3:30pm plus call status
Weekend rotation: Every 5th weekend - call rotation
Holiday rotation: Every 5th holiday - call rotation
Additional Information: This position participates in a call rotation, which requires a response time of 15 minutes to return to MBMC.
Position Summary:
To maintain the sterile field in the operating room, being constantly vigilant to see that proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection. To assist the surgical team as the sterile member who passes instruments, sutures, and sponges during surgery.
Position Responsibilities:
Complies with all applicable Joint Commission patient safety goals.
Follows principle of Infection Prevention Control in the OR.
Performs surgical scrub prior to the surgical procedure.
Participates in the time-out before the surgical procedure.
Institutes sterile technique as a scrub personnel.
Anticipates the need of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in efficient manner.
Helps prepare specimens, hold retractors, cuts sutures, and apply surgical dressings, as directed.
Demonstrate competency in the use and care of surgical instruments.
Performs accurate intra-operative sponge, sharps, and instrument count.
Identifies methods of sterilization and disinfection and criteria for each method.
Assists in cleaning and restocking the operating room.
Attend department meetings/in-service and mandatory hospital in-service.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Education
Graduate of Surgical Technician Program preferred or prior surgical technician experience
Previous OR experience is preferred
BLS obtained within 6 months of hire
Required Skills
Must have a high energy level with ability to work under stress of the operating room atmosphere and exhibit emotional maturity, stability, and flexibility.
