The Colbert County Commission is currently accepting employment applications for a Sheriff's Deputy for the Colbert County Sheriff's Office. Applicants must apply in person at the Sheffield Career Center. Applicants must have an active registration in alabamaworks.alabama.gov to receive a referral letter and application. Online referrals will NOT be accepted. After receiving application and referral from Sheffield Career Center, applicants will turn these documents in to the Sheriff's Department at Colbert County Courthouse. **Starting Salary will be $17.05/hr for Certified and $16.31/hr for Non/Certified plus health insurance and other benefits. Requirements:** Must be a high school graduate or G.E.D. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be 21 years of age to apply. The employee may be assigned other duties that are not specifically included. * Job Summary Under the direction of the sheriff, the employee patrols assigned area and responds to calls and complaints. Processes civil and criminal papers. Provides security for transport of prisoners, court proceedings and special events. Assists with booking process, search of inmates, release process and other jail duties. Performs other law enforcement duties as assigned. Duties and Responsibilities A. Patrol Patrols the county observing activities; looks for any situation that does not appear normal for the area. Responds to and investigates all calls or complaints received; prepares a written report for each complaint. Performs preliminary investigation of crimes. Gathers names of witnesses; secures the crime scene; briefs supervisor and/or investigator of known factsand situations; assists with collection of evidence and interviews. Enforces all traffic regulations; issues citations to offenders. Provides backup support for other law enforcement officers and agencies as needed. Participates in raids for misdemeanor and felony acts; completes arrest reports. Makes arrest for misdemeanor and felony acts; completes arrest reports. Observes and makes building checks of county businesses, schools, churches, and other buildings during closed hours. Keeps traffic moving smoothly; directs traffic as required and provides escorts for funeral processions. Assists motorist or pedestrians in need; calls wrecker and/or ambulance, provides emergency vehicle escorts, contacts family members when needed. Enforces all county, state and federal laws. B. Civil and Criminal Process Serves and executes various civil papers including subpoenas, probate orders, etc. Provides information to persons receiving papers as to theirresponsibilities. Serves warrants of arrest; arrests and transports individuals to jail and assists them in making bond. Assists with the booking process. Contacts with various sources to locate civil par or recipients. Reviews civil papers as necessary. Testifies in court as required. C. Security Transports prisoners to and from county jail and other facilities such as court, medical facilities, state prison and mental institutions. Transports prisoners to and from county jail and law enforcement facilities in other states and counties. Transports emergency medical personnel, medical supplies, juveniles and government personnel as needed. Provides security at court proceedings. Provides security at local public events Education and Training Possess a high school diploma or equivalent and some experience in law enforcement is preferred; however, any combination of education and experience which providethequalificationslisted abov will be considered.
